            WELCOMES YOU TO HORNET NATION!

            Transfer

It doesn’t matter where your college career began, we’ll help you finish what you started!

A “transfer” student is one who has completed college coursework AFTER high school graduation.

For transfer students that have completed at least 24 transferable credit hours:

            • A complete online application.
            • Official transcripts from EACH college/university attended.
            • A $20 non-refundable application fee for domestic applicants and a $50 non-refundable fee for international applicants.

For transfer students that have earned less than 24 transferable credit hours:

            • Official copy of your high school transcript or GED scores.
            • Official transcripts from EACH college/university attended.
            • Official record of your ACT or SAT scores.
              • ACT Code: 2302
              • SAT Code: 6269

Transferring Credits from Other Colleges or Universities

The transferability of your previously earned college credit to Harris-Stowe State University is only evaluated after you’ve submitted an application and receipt of official transcripts from EACH college or university attended.

To be considered eligible for transferability, your previous college-level coursework must be taken at an accredited college or university. In addition, the grade received in the course must be at least a 'D' or better. Harris-Stowe State University reserves the right to reject the transfer of any credit for which the University has no equivalent coursework.

You may transfer an unlimited number of credits from four-year colleges or universities to Harris-Stowe State University. Regardless of the number of credits transferred, the last 30 credit hours toward your degree program must be completed in residence at Harris-Stowe State University to be eligible to receive a degree from HSSU.

            Community College Visits

Harris-Stowe State University transfer admission counselors visit many St. Louis-area community colleges throughout the academic year. It’s your chance to talk to us directly about transferring and ask any questions you may have.

Call 314-340-3300 to see when a Harris-Stowe State University admission counselor will visit your campus.  Feel free to arrange an interview in advance or drop by to talk more informally. Some topics our counselors frequently cover are:

            • The application process
            • How your courses transfer for HSSU credit
            • Scholarships and financial aid for transfer students

DO YOU HAVE SOME UNANSWERED QUESTIONS BEFORE APPLYING OR COMING TO HSSU?  WE'VE COLLECTED OUR MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS BELOW:

ONCE I SUBMIT MY TRANSCRIPT(S), WHEN WILL I HEAR A DECISION?

Admissions decisions are rendered on a rolling basis. Admissions decisions are not made until transcripts for all previous coursework have been received. Students can expect to receive communication within 7-10 business days, during non-peak seasons (Peak Season August - December). Once a decision is made, electronic and hard copy communication will be sent.

            ARE DEVELOPMENTAL COURSES ACCEPTED?

No. Only college-level courses that meet degree requirements for a student’s major will be accepted.

            DOES MY GPA TRANSFER?

Students transferring to HSSU start with a new GPA. Your GPA upon arrival at HSSU will be 0.00.

This does not apply if you are a student seeking readmission. In that case, HSSU coursework will still be factored into your GPA.

WHAT IF I HAVE AN ASSOCIATE OF ARTS (A.A.) DEGREE?

The Associate of Arts degree is designated as the statewide general transfer degree. Students completing the A.A. degree consisting of a 42-semester-hour general education block of credit will have met the 42-semester-hour general education block for Harris-Stowe State University. Courses taken as part of an A.A. degree outside the general education block should be carefully chosen to ensure transferability to the program of study which the student intends to pursue at HSSU. All other associate degrees are evaluated on a course-by-course basis.
